クルマの燃費を、日本ではガソリン1リットルで何キロ走れるかで表しますよね。でも、よその国では分子と分母が逆で、一定の距離を走るのにガソリンをどれだけ食うかで表します。

どんな経緯でこんな天地がひっくり返るような違いが起こったのか知りませんけど、日本人は与えられたリソースの中でどこまでやれるかで評価する、西欧人は目指すゴールに到達するためにどれだけリソースをつぎ込まなければならないかで評価するという違いだと考えると興味深いなあ。
